Pack warm clothing, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, medications for AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), and other essentials like a power bank.
How do I acclimatize to Ladakh’s high altitude?
Spend the first 1-2 days in Leh resting and avoiding physical exertion. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol, and consider taking Diamox if needed.

Yes, but ensure they acclimatize properly and consult a doctor beforehand. Avoid high-altitude places like Khardung La and plan a relaxed itinerary.

Know Before You Go
Arrow Icon
  • Road Conditions Are Challenging – The roads to Nubra and Pangong pass through high-altitude passes like Khardung La and Chang La, with rough patches and landslides. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
  • Limited Network Connectivity – Only BSNL, Airtel, and Jio postpaid SIMs work in Ladakh, and even those have limited coverage in Nubra and Pangong. Expect no internet access in remote areas.
  • Cash is Essential – ATMs are mostly available in Leh; Nubra and Pangong have very few, and they may not work. Carry enough cash for food, stay, and fuel.
  • Pack Essentials – Carry high SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, a power bank, a flashlight, and reusable water bottles. Oxygen cans can be useful for altitude sickness.
  • Respect Local Culture & Environment – Ladakh is ecologically sensitive. Avoid littering, respect local customs, and be mindful of wildlife. Plastic waste disposal is a big challenge in the region.
  • Electricity is Limited – Power cuts are common in Nubra and Pangong, and some accommodations rely on solar energy. Charge your devices fully in Leh and carry a power bank.
  • Wildlife & Stray Dogs – You may encounter Himalayan marmots, yaks, and even wild horses. Avoid feeding them. Also, beware of stray dogs at night, especially around Pangong.
  • Best Time to Visit – May to September is ideal for travel, as roads are open and weather is pleasant. Winter trips (October to April) are possible but extremely challenging due to sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall.
